This chamber has no windows, and no doors, and no power.

People who know me and Silent Partner know that we are fans of The Disneyland. We use our passes to the max and are there at least a couple of times a month.

4th of July weekend, to our surprise, was not packed. We showed up late into the day and headed for the Hanted Mansion. I've been going on this ride since I can remember and, apart from the one time I was freaked out by a cast member dressed in a suit of armor, I've never been scared on this ride. You Know You Grew Up In Southern California When...you can recite the entire elevator speech from memory.

Down went Silent Partner and I into the hallway of shifting art...and I stopped dead (ha) at a gaping hole in the wall. Apparently only one elevator was going, because the other elevator was frozen in space.I wish I could say this photo was of the acutal event, but sadly it is an Actor Representation, i.e. it was ripped from the internet. The elevator was only lit by ambient light - the candles were not lit, and the uplights were dim.

Silent Partner and I stepped quietly into the room and looked upward at the shadowy paintings as the noise of the other riders faded down the hall. I've seen this room hundreds of times in my life, and yet, standing there in the half-light with no sounds, only the sullen faces of the paintings staring down at us, not knowing if the room was going to catch and take us for a ride, was the pleasantest chill in the spine I've ever had at the Mansion.

However, fear of the Mickey Police is awesome, and so we turned and trotted down the hall to catch up with the screaming children and rowdy teenagers.

Creativity and adventure are everywhere to be found.
