Anyone who knows me knows about my loyalty to Volvos. Yes, I know, expensive to maintain, reliability, etc., but if I were to make a list of the top 10 factors to consider when buying a car, items 1 through 5 would be "safety," and no car screams safety like Volvo.
My beloved 850 just passed its 100,000 mile mark and celebrated, as Volvos do, by decrapitating all its parts. Earlier this year, my parents' aged Volvo wagon demanded repairs in the four figures every two months until finally my parents fled to a brand-new Volvo. Our esteemed family mechanic bluntly told me that my own 850 is about to take the same road and I'd be better off getting a new car.
Behold, I can't get into a used (used!) Volvo S60, the model most comparable to my car, for less than $550/month! I'm faced with breaking my loyalty and going where, ahem, drivers are wanted. I'm waiting for word right now from a local dealership on what deal I can get on a lease. Yes, lease. The economy, the move, the wedding, yadda yadda yadda, I'm looking at leasing a Volkswagen Jetta.
So. Change your car, change your marital status, change your dwelling. Thank God my job continues steady, which is more than a lot of people can say right now.
Silent Partner and I did finish the 3-week-long festival of moving in together this weekend. The final haul of moving finished at around 2:00 AM, November 1. Thankfully, we were not haunted by ghoulies or goblins, although we did get a cricket in the bathroom.
As to my beadies? Buried under boxes and bags. I got some super awesome beads on sale from Beadin' Path and finished my bridal tiara; as soon as I unearth my camera I'll post pics.
